Rennielyn rupert's Kidneys & Urine Formation: Questions - OpenLearning

Question 1.

Why do different animals have different lengths of loop of Henle? If an animal has a very long loop of Henle, what does it tell you about its adaptation to the environment that this animal live?
The main function of loop of Henle is to create a concentration gradient in the medulla of the kidney and to reabsorb water. long loop of henle means the species will produce very concentrated urine whereas short loop of henle will produce dilute urine for example beavers. Long loop of henle is important as more water can be reabsorb back in an arid envirenment. this is to ensure the animal to preserve aas much as posible and to minimize loss of water through urination and sweat. For example, kangaroo rats has a long loop of henle that helps in converse water by the reabsorption process.
