About Me

 

Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Farouk bin Othman started his culinary experience by joining local food competition whilst completing his studies in Hotel Management. After been overwhelmed by culinary arts, furnished with Diploma in Culinary Arts and awarded as “Best Student Award” in the class, he went on to work in the best French restaurant, Lafite in Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur. He then continued his journey by heading off to Europe to discover the continents flavor and food cultures. From Luzern & St. Galllen in Switzerland to Paris and London, Farouk discovered and improved his culinary skill in Cuisine. He went on to graduate Bachelor in Science, with first class honors in Culinary Arts Management at Thames Valley University, London and was among the first three Malaysians ever to receive this highest achievement. He came back to Kuala Lumpur after working with several high end restaurants in London.  He also had led hotel & restaurants in Kuala Lumpur serving modern eclectic food.

Throughout 15 years journey in the culinary world, he had join & won many other accolades in competitions.  Among his recent achievement coaching students reaching to the sublime, has awarded him four years in a row as a ‘Coach of the Year’ from Nestle Culinary Arts Awards competition, which his student continuously achieving Gold trophy for the event.  In 2010, with the Malaysian team competing in an international ground in Food Hotel Asia 2010, Singapore begging 2 Silvers against team from Germany, Switzerland, Hong Kong and others countries around the globe.  He was also the first Malaysian candidate to join the most prestige culinary Olympics, The Bocuse D’or that was held in Shanghai, China and Lyon, France biannually that awarded him another Silver trophy, bringing him to compete and uphold as the best 24 chefs in the world at that culinary orchestra.
 
In addition to these successes throughout the years, he have managed time completing his Master’s Degree in International Hospitality Management by University of Toulouse 2 Le Mirail, France completed at Taylor’s University Lakeside campus; graduated in May 2012. From representing Malaysia as a candidate, he have transformed his attributes to mentoring students to represent Malaysia in Culinary Competitions. 
 
He is also appointed as an official National Expert & Coach at the 2013 42nd World Skills Competition in Leipzig, Germany & 2015 43rd World Skills Competition in Sao Paolo, Brazil for Malaysian Team in Cooking category directed by the Ministry of Human Resources under supervision of Department of Skills Development agency. Along with this position, he has been appointed as Honorary Jury Expert at the 9th & 10th ASEAN Skills Competition that was held in 2012 at Jakarta, Indonesia & 2014 at Hanoi, Vietnam. Currently serving as a National Chef Expert in 2016 11th ASEAN skills Competition where Malaysia will become host for this historical event.
